Macaroni & Tomato Juice
+
This is the cheapest meal of my life and I crave it all the time. Cook macaroni the normal way, drain water, then add a mini can of tomato juice-- not sauce-- the juice. I can eat it cold or warm. Growing up, I always ate it with a slice of cheddar cheese and a glass of milk. Recently I've also added a can of chili and shredded cheese. Seriously! It's soooo good. I'm so hungry just thinking about it.
Toast & Orange Juice
+
This one definitely came from my mom, as did the macaroni and tomato juice. It's simple. Butter your toast, then dip it in a glass of orange juice and take a bite. I usually break off pieces of the toast so it can fit better in the glass. It's deeelicious. If there is ever orange juice in the fridge... BOOM... toast is on the way. Mmm!
Ritz Crackers & Mini Marshmallows
+
I have no idea where this one stemmed from but you have to be careful because these little snackers are addicting! It's like the more I eat... the more I want. Just pile on 4-5 marshmallows on top of a Ritz cracker, and eat it! Shove the whole thing in your mouth or break it in half. Either way, it's the perfect combination of sweet and salty. Basically, Ritz with ANYTHING is fabulous-- cheese & peanut butter, etc. But marshmallows are the best!
Banana & Peanut Butter
+
I know this one isn't totally unique, but I love it. The perfect banana is just after it's turned from green to yellow... before it gets soft, brown, and spotted. I usually just peel it, have a knife in hand, and use it to wipe peanut butter on the end after each time I take a bite. I'd much rather do that than make a banana & peanut butter sandwich, although that tastes good too. Just give me a banana and peanut butter and I'm happy.
Additional Tasty Combos:
Vanilla Yogurt & Apple (cut into small chunks)
Bread w/ Peanut Butter, sprinkled with Nestle Chocolate "Quik" Powder
Spaghetti with Chicken Nuggets (cut into small pieces)
Go ahead. Try any of them if you haven't already. And tell me how much you love them!

maybe this is why you like the color orange. Orange juice. One of my favorite's is Campbell Soup after Church. Not often, but sometimes, and in the evening when I have been working outside and need a quick internal heat hit. maybe it has something to do with toasted cheese and tomato soup after church that my Mom make when I was a wee one!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh!! I've never met another person who likes (or even knows about) macaroni and tomatoes (that's what I call it anyway). It is my most favorite thing to eat and believe it or not, I have some in the fridge waiting for me for lunch. I cook up a big batch and eat it all week long. I like it cold or hot too!!
ReplyDeleteI totally remember seeing you eat macaroni and tomato juice and thinking you were the weirdest thing ever! But I sure love ya!
ReplyDeleteGotta try the macaroni and tomato juice thing now. And I second vanilla yogurt and apples - yum yum! I am still the only person I know who likes ketchup on corn, though. Matt thinks I'm crazy :)
ReplyDeletehahaha oh Bree, I'm glad you divulged some of your weird food secrets. You're an odd duck, and I love you. You have me craving mac and tomato juice now...mmmmm. With some pepper. You should start buying either whole grain or smart taste macaroni so it's a little healthier. :) THe only other one I like is bananas and PB...but I like it on toast with some honey. Mmmmm. Cheers to mom for introducing lovely simple foods like tator tot casserole, tuna gravy on rice, and peanut butter cheerio bars!
ReplyDeleteI think that for the most part all I can say is YUCK!
ReplyDeleteEw for most of these. I think you need to try saltines, cheese and pickles. That's my fav.
ReplyDeleteI totally want mac and tomato juice now! My tummy even growled looking at the picture. Weird. :) And I think you got the ritz and marshmallows from me since I can still picture sitting cross-legged on our family room floor in San Jose eating those on top of a little stool in front of the TV. :) Yummy!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I've only tried the first two, but I have to admit those were both things my mom liked too. Weird or not, they're just plain comfort foods. And the macaroni has to be al dente- nice and chewy. And I like to grate cheese on it and add a bunch of pepper that you'd hate. But yum!
ReplyDeleteI tried the recommendation from Lauryl...saltines, cheddar cheese and pickle slices, and it was soooo good! Mmmmmmm.
