Facebook = No Blind Date

So, a few months ago I posted my thoughts on Blind Dates.

I've really tried to back off on using Facebook to find information that I should really wait to learn about from the actual person.  I guess it's been easy because it's been a few months since a blind date set-up, so it was easy not to stalk anyone. :)

But last week my friend called and asked if she could set me up with a guy she works with.  SURE.  She's only talked to him a few times and doesn't know him very well, but once she found out he likes girls who are sporty and outdoorsy... she figured I might be a good fit. So here comes a blind date!

He called me on Monday and we had a nice 10 min chat and made good, comfortable small talk.  Finally he asked if I had plans for Saturday and I told him I would pencil him in. :)  So we decided on 5pm for Saturday and he said he'd call me during the week to let me know his plan.

I already decided I wasn't going to try to find him on Facebook... and it was actually perfect because my friend didn't even know his last name. Haha.

But the NEXT day I got a text from set-up boy that said something like, "Hey, what's your full name?  I tried to find you on Facebook and your friend must be telling me the wrong first name."  My first thought was, "Geez... way to be sneaky about it, brotha!"  And then I just laughed and told him my name (Brianna Toone, not "Bree") and asked what his last name was.  It's only fair if I can find HIM on there, right?

Only when I went to take a gander, his privacy settings were pretty tight and I couldn't see anything other than his profile picture, which was a family picture from far away and totally worthless.  I tried going about different avenues and finally just gave up because nothing was working.  Yet, on my end, for anyone who ever FB stalks me, I have pictures galore!  I'm like a stalking jackpot because I allow "friends of friends" to see pics so who cares, really, who's looking at them.  And any curious boy will know all sides of me after a few minutes of FB browsing.  And yet, this boy left me with nothing.  Lame.

You know what else is awkward?  I told him my full name and knew he would be looking for me on Facebook, and then didn't hear back from the rest of the day. Haha.  So is that a bad sign?  Like... what's the proper action after that?  It's not like he should text me after FB and say, "Hey I saw your pics.  You're cute, can't wait to meet you!"  Duh, of course not!  But that thick silence just makes me all paranoid and stuff.  He did text me that night and asked if I liked fires... like cooking food over the fire, so I guess that means I passed the initial FB stalking test, if he's still thinking about a date.

Anyway.  Now we're real FB friends and haven't met... and his FB isn't very fun to browse through because most of his pics are 1 or 2 yrs old and there isn't a whole lot of recent stuff.  Oh well.  You can't judge a man by his Facebook wall.  :)

But here goes nothin'.  Another blind date in 3 days.  Hope it's a good one.

  1. Bwahahaha! Bree you crack me up! I too, am a facebook stalker. I now feel better that I was not the only one. I am now recovering because I saw my addiction to facebook taking up to much of my time, so now I am on hiatus for awhile. lol. I do hope you have fun on your date! It is always funner to find out who they are in person anyway ;)
